My wife and I met Willard around 20 years ago while on Vacation in Montana. We had purchased a couple of small Morin wood carvings from a dealer in Minnesota and were looking for more of his carvings. We stopped at a local store and saw 2 or 3 carvings that were the same size as we had already, so we asked the store owner if they had more in stock, he said no but we could maybe see Willard himself and ask him! We could not beleive it but the store owner called Willard at home and he invited us over to his house which was only a block away, upon arriving we were treated like old friends, he made us feel very much at home, and showed us around his work room, and his very large and beautiful flower garden, we were amazed at all the blue ribbons in the house from different flower shows he had attended and won ribbons. We told him we wanted a larger carving, maybe with 2 or 3 Indians on it so he directed me to go out by the garage and pick out a piece of wood, which I did. He ask me what I wanted on it, we decided on 2 large Indian bust and a surprise. A few months later in the mail we received our carving and in between the Indians was a standing bear, We had Willard carve another large carving a couple of years later, and he mentioned he was going to start working more in Bronze, we lost touch with him after that but we never forgot how nice he treated us and how we went away feeling like we were long time friends. We were sad to learn of his passing, the world has lost a fine human being and a wonderful craftsman and artist. Dave and Bonnie Harvey, Urbandale, Iowa
