Carol M Warnes passed away Sunday February 4, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. She was very proud to have survived to the age of 80 years, after defying death numerous times.
Carol Marline McManus Warnes was born July 22, 1937 to Nettie Gertrude McManus and Nathan Clouis McManus in Great Falls Montana. She married Richard Leigh Warnes in 1956 in Reno and traveled the world as a US Navy Wife. She is survived by her children: Wanda Kay Thomas (Tracy), Cynthia Lynne Warnes and Roland Glen Warnes (Michelle); 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Carol had 5 brothers and 1 sister who preceded her in death.
Carol grew up in Rollins, Montana where she went to Elementary school and ultimately graduated from Polson High School.
Social activities and involvement were highlights for Mom. As a Navy Wife she was always involved in activities which helped our troops during the war. After moving back to Kalispell she was an active member for numerous years with the Eagles Auxiliary. She held several leadership roles over the years and dedicated many years fundraising for several charities. She was also a Board Member for several years for Friendship House, a place she held very dear to her heart.
Once Mom took a whole Girl Scout Troop to London England from Londonderry Northern Ireland. Just imagine a group of young teenage girls on buses, ferries, subway’s and Piccadilly Lane. I don’t know where she found the energy. She ran a tight ship, everyone made it home safe and sound.
We lived in Northern Ireland for a couple years until our father became ill. Mom somehow packed up the whole house and got us on a plane back to the States. When we got to New York our luggage was coming down a moving belt with our 2 Yorkshire terriers in a cage, the cage became unlatched and the dogs were running around the airport. Just imagine the scene, she kept her cool and got everyone, including the dogs out of that airport and drove to Kalispell. Of course the car had its share of problems, a radiator leak with frequent infusions of water. Things seemed to get worse the closer she got to Kalispell. Luckily she could call on her brothers to come and rescue her, she loved her brothers very much.
Mom worked a few jobs once she arrived in Kalispell. She was most proud of her work for the Kalispell Police Department. She always loved keeping up with all the goings on around town and kept a Police Scanner blaring in her kitchen, we don’t think she slept well without it.
She instilled a lifelong love of huckleberry picking in her daughters. Her eldest daughter Wanda has spent almost every yearly vacation traveling over 400 miles to camp in the Hungry Horse Reservoir area during huckleberry season. This tradition continues with her grown children and their families. Mom always looked forward to these get togethers, saying “just plop me down in a big patch on an easy slope and I’ll be happy”.

Her service and celebration of life will be Monday February 12th at 1:30 pm at the Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and crematory with burial to follow services at Glacier Memorial Gardens. with a reception to follow burial at the Eagles.
