One of my fondest memories of Beatrice was the summer I spent a couple of weeks with them, I think I was probably 10 or 11. We were having breakfast and for whatever reason the buttered toast with strawberry jam completely hit the spot, so much so that I think the better part of a loaf of bread disappeared down my gullet, needless to say she was amazed by how much I put away.
Later on in the week it was laundry day, and as it was a nice summer day, clothes were hung out on the line. When Beatrice was getting the clothes off the line, she called for Mark and I to come and see what she found. In the leg of one of my pairs of pants birds had built a nest, I don't recall what was said about it but we were all amazed at what those birds accomplished in such a short time.
I'll always remember her kind heart and the love she had for her family, even the hungry little nephew who could put away the toast.
