Almeda King

October 13, 1927 ~ December 25, 2015 (age 88) 88 Years Old
Almeda Louise (deLongpre) King, 88

Almeda quietly slipped away on Christmas morning with her husband at her side.

Almeda and Jack were high school sweethearts and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Almeda was born in Kalispell.  She graduated from Flathead High School in 1945 and attended Western Union School. She was in charge of the boys who bicycled around town delivering telegraphs. After marrying Jack and moving to Missoula, she worked as a stenographer at Misco Mill.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and servant to the Lord. She touched many with her huge heart, kindness, class and grace. She taught her family to treat everyone the way you want to be treated, take interest in others, take pride in your work, yourself and your home.

Almeda loved to entertain, travel, garden and dance. She enjoyed their summer home on Ashley Lake, going to Griz games and attending all her children and grandchildren’s events and activities. She loved Christmas! She loved animals and will be missed by Clyde, Lucky, Smokey and Sarah. She was a supporter of the Humane Society of Northwest Montana, the dog kennel being named in her honor. She was a Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Kalispell and remembered by many for her contributions there. She was by Jack’s side and a tremendous supporter over Jack’s banking career at Valley Bank of Kalispell. Almeda typed the entire application presented to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation which was approved to move the Charter of the State Bank of Somers to Kalispell and change the bank’s name to Valley Bank of Kalispell. She also typed the Charter application for the First Security Bank of Kalispell in which Jack was one of the founders. The Bank’s name was later changed to Three River Bank of Montana. She was also a great and memorable first lady for Jack when he was the President of the Independent Community Bankers Association (ICBA), the national trade association for community banks. She hosted a dinner reception attended by the Directors of the ICBA in honor of Paul Volcker, who at the time was the Chairman of the Federal Reserve System. She also was a member of P.E.O. Chapter C. Most recently, she became an honorary member of Rotary International’s Paul Harris Fellow.

Almeda is preceded in death by her parents A.E. “Ed” and Theresa (Novotny) deLongpre and her five older sisters:  Dorothy Rose, Amber Mero, Irene Loveday, Elva Walters, Frances Sheperd and her brother, Joseph Longpre.

Almeda is survived by her husband, A.J. “Jack” King, their three children, Karen Rosenberg (Ron), John King (Cheryl) and A.J. King; six grandchildren, Kirsten Pevey (Derek), Joel Rosenberg (Shannon), Ashley King-Jones (Bobby), Shila Schreiner (Cody), Patrick King and Annie King; seven great grandchildren, Rylan and Jaidyn Pevey, Ollie, Reese and Hadlee Rosenberg and AnnaLynn and DecLand Schreiner.

Memorial Service will be held at noon on Thursday, December 31 at First Presbyterian Church, 540 North Main Street, Kalispell with a reception to follow at the church. Burial will follow at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Glen Burfeind will be officiating.

Memorials can be made to the Humane Society of Northwest Montana, 100 Adopt A Pet Way, Kalispell, the Glacier Presbyterian Church Camp, 17482 O’Neil Lane, Lakeside or the First Presbyterian Church of Kalispell, 540 North Main Street, Kalispell.
