Richard Lee Halverson was born on December 27, 1953 in Glasgow, Montana, to Jarvis and Marketa (Opheim) Halverson.
On February 28, 2020 Rick passed away peacefully at the Brendan House in Kalispell, Montana.
Rick grew up and attended grade school in Glasgow and Cut Bank. After spending summers on Whitefish Lake, the family relocated to Kalispell in 1967. Rick continued his schooling until he graduated from Flathead High School in 1972. Always interested in numbers, Rick studied accounting in college. He graduated from the University of Montana and became a certified public accountant.
Over his professional years Rick developed and continued his CPA practice in Whitefish, Kalispell and Great Falls.
On December 14, 2000, Rick married Mara Piva in Assis, Brazil. They were happily married for many years.
Wherever Rick traveled he enjoyed his family and friends. He loved sharing jokes and stories. He loved meeting new people. Throughout his years Rick enjoyed skiing, fishing, biking and spending time at the family home on Flathead Lake. Rick found joy in listening to music.
Rick is preceded in death by his father Jarvis Halverson, his grandparents P.K. and Hilda Halverson and Norris and Lilah Opheim.
Rick is survived by his mother Marketa Halverson Shoults of Phoenix, Arizona. Rick is also survived by his four sisters including Callie (Larry) Epstein of Essex, Sandy (Kirk) Streit of Kalispell, Patti Gallagher of Sacramento, California, and Janeen (Jeff) Winkley of Whitefish. Rick adored his nieces and nephews and is also survived by Aaron Winkley of Whitefish, Ashley Lohr (Sean) of Whitefish, Jackie Hull (Thomas) of Tempe, Arizona, Taylor Streit of Bozeman, Maren Gallagher of Sacramento, California and Logan Streit (Kathryn) of Kalispell. Rick is also survived by one great nephew, Liam Lohr of Whitefish.
A special thank you is extended by the family to all of the people at Brendan House who cared for Rick this last year.
Friends of Rick are invited to a reception on March 27 from 5 to 7 pm at Whitefish Community Center at 121 East Second Street, Whitefish, Montana.
A family celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a later date.
