John Jacob Van Helden passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2020, surrounded by his family.
John was born December 6, 1928, in Rice Lake, WI, to James and Julia Van Helden. He met his wife, Marian Rose Mercier, in high school, and they were married May 8, 1948.
In 1951 they moved to Libby, MT, where they lived for 27 years and were blessed with 8 children. In 1978 they moved to Manhattan, MT, where John retired as postmaster. John was an accomplished woodworker and built their beautiful home in Polson, along with numerous other cherished pieces of furniture. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and many other outdoor activities.
He is preceeded in death by his parents, 8 siblings, and his infant daughter, Kristina Rose. John is survived by his wife, Marian, of 71-1/2 years. He leaves behind 7 children; Steve (Naine), Jeff (Jackie), Maria (Mike), Trina (Roy), Pete (Tanya), Joe (Laurie), Terri (Austin). He was also blessed with 22 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Visitation and rosary will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home from 5 pm to 7 pm.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Buffalo Hill Terrace Chapel. Viewing will be 30 minutes prior to funeral services.
