Jean K. Smith, 92, passed away on May 2, 2017, at the Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell.
Jean was born in Wyandotte, Michigan, on April 7, 1925, the daughter of J. Morgan and Kathryn Smitka.
She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, and worked in sales after graduation. In 1942, she married Fredrick A. Smith, to whom she was happily married for 63 years, until Fred’s death in 2005.
She worked for many years at Weaver’s Store for Men in Wyandotte, as a bookkeeper. She and Fred owned and operated Delray Electronics from 1970 until their well-deserved retirement in the mid-1990s.
She greatly enjoyed taking trips with Fred on their cabin cruiser, The Shauna, followed by time spent on their houseboat. She was a Girl Scout leader, an active member of the Wyandotte Yacht Club, and a lifelong member of The First Presbyterian Church of Wyandotte. Jean was an accomplished bridge player, an incredible baker and a sewing genius. She and Fred enjoyed wintering in Pompano Beach, Florida, and visiting their daughter, Kathy, and her husband, Alan, in Montana.
In 2006, Jean moved to Kalispell, — the start of a new adventure. There, she met Albert Dufresne. In 2012, they were married (at the ages of 86 and 88) and were married for three years, until his passing in 2015.
She loved her kitties, which were always part of the family.
She never met a cookie that she didn’t like. In spite of this, she was trim, attractive and stylish.
Jean was preceded in death by her mother, father, sister (Mary Behm), brother (Jack Smitka), and husbands, Fred and Albert.
She is survived by her daughter Katherine (Alan) Williams, sister-in-law, Mary Jean Smitka, brother-in-law, David Smith, nephews, Keith (Marsha) Behm, Michael (Gloria) Smitka, Curt (Cindy) Smitka, and Tim Smitka; also two great-nieces, two great-nephews, one great-great niece, and dear friend, Susan Holzheuter. She also leaves behind her cat, Oscar.
The family would like to thank Dr. Marise Johnson and her staff, the Immanuel Lutheran Home and Home Options Hospice, for their special care.
