J.P. Awalt Jr was born September 10, 1936 in Dallas, Texas to Jacob Posey Awalt and Marvelle Burton Awalt, and died peacefully at his home in Bigfork, Montana on May 20, 2018. He attended Highland Park Schools, Texas Military Institute, and The University of Texas where he was a member of Sigma Chi.
After spending his career in the family wholesale furniture business in Dallas, he retired to Bigfork, Montana where he continued to enjoy the outdoor life of hunting, fishing, boating, and competitive shooting. He loved the beautiful northwest countryside.
He was pre deceased by his parents, his sister, Marvelle Awalt Muntzel of Dallas, and his nephew, James Phillips of Houston.
He is survived by his sisters Grace Awalt Phillips and husband Carroll Phillips of Houston and Jean Awalt Saunders of Austin. He is survived by nieces and nephews Marvelle Ditto, Carol Ann Phillips, Allyson Saunders, Mark and Kathy Muntzel, John and Stephanie Phillips, and Clay Saunders. He is also survived by 6 great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in Dallas, Texas at a later date. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for the family.
